After months of planning your wedding day is almost here. One of the special things brides and grooms do for one another is to buy a wedding gift. This is typically exchanged the evening of the wedding day. If you are a gal looking to buy a wedding gift for your guy you may be looking for some good ideas.

When you just think about your man you’ll usually come up with an idea or two. A good idea is to make it personal. If he loves to play bartender and makes a mean martini, a personalized cocktail shaker is a fun gift that he can get a lot of use out of. If he’s more of an outdoorsy type, an engraved pocket knife is an interesting idea.

For the executive, nothing announces his success more than a pair of silver cuff links. Of course if silver is not his style, no worries, you can find cuff links in a variety of styles and materials. And let’s not forget that a set of cuff links can come in very useful on the day of your wedding if you are having a formal wedding wherein the guys are wearing suits.

If your guy cooks, you are a lucky girl! Beyond getting well fed, it also gives you a variety of gift ideas. Maybe you’ll get him a very nice grilling set. Or maybe you’ll get him one of those very expensive outdoor grill/kitchens if you can afford it and you have a home to park it at. Guys love grilling.

Sometimes you want a more traditional approach in a groom’s gift. In that case, don’t overlook a nice watch. There are so many to choose from in terms of style and price that you really can’t miss. If you go with a high end watch from a specialty shop, consider getting a secret message engraved on the back.

The important thing is not to stress over a gift for your groom. Enjoy this tradition as part of the wedding process and also consider getting a personalized gift. There are several great on-line stores that do personalization without additional charge.

You’ll get many good ideas just by thinking of all your fiance’s favorite activities. Select a present that has utility for his lifestyle and he’ll love it for sure. Regardless of what you end up giving your groom, he’ll appreciate that you thought about him.

the many wonders of grilling vegetables and their nutrients

Health Benefits of Grilling vegetables for a Healthier You

vegetables are a very important part of a healthy, balanced diet. Vegetables not only taste better when they are fresh but they maintain more of their nutritional values this way too. Grilled vegetables can accompany a main dish or they can be served as a main meal.

When grilling, you will get the best results using vegetables with a low water content. Examples include mushrooms, onions, cabbage, asparagus, and bell peppers. You can grill these vegetables wrapped in tinfoil or directly on the grill. If you wrap the vegetables in a tin foil sachet, you do not need to add oil or fats. If you boil your vegetables, you will lose a lot of their nutritional value in the water. If you fry them, they will soak up a lot of fat. Grilling is the healthiest way to prepare vegetables and it is easy to do.

Benefits of Vegetables

If you have ever wondered about fruits and vegetables in nutrition, the truth is they are incredibly good for you. Eating more means your risk for type 2 diabetes, stoke and cardiovascular disease is reduced. Another of the benefits of vegetables is that they give protection against heart disease, kidney stones, some kinds of cancers and osteoporosis. Dark green and orange vegetables are better at preventing cancers. Vegetables are also beneficial if you are trying to lose weight. They are high in fiber but low in calories. This means they fill you up without being fattening.

The Importance of Vegetable Nutrients

You find potassium, dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and folate (folic acid) in vegetables. Dietary fiber can reduce the blood’s cholesterol levels and helps with good bowel function. Potassium keeps blood pressure at a healthy level. Folate helps in the production of red blood cells. Vitamin C is good for the teeth, gums, wound healing and iron absorption. Vitamin A is good for the skin and eyes. Vitamin E protects vitamin A and essential acids in the body from cell oxidization.

Grilled Vegetable Recipe

This is a quick and easy grilled vegetable recipe, which is high in vegetable nutrients and flavor. Clean and trim a selection of vegetables that grill well. Cut each into thick slices or halves. You can choose from eggplant, button mushrooms, tomatoes, corn on the cob, summer squash, peppers and more.

Parboil some small, waxy potatoes until they are tender. Soak the corn on the cob for an hour, having removed the silks but leaving the husks on. Brush the vegetables lightly with oil, if you do not plan to use foil, so they will not stick to the grill. Alternatively, brush them with a marinade.

Heat up your grill. When it is medium hot, either place your vegetables on the grill, in a foil pouch or on skewers. If you are using dense vegetables, such as carrots and potatoes, these take longer to cook, so add them first. Turn the vegetables when they need it and brush on more marinade or oil when required. If you can pierce the vegetables easily with a sharp knife, they are ready to eat.

To make an easy marinade, you can mix 2 parts of olive oil with 1 part lemon juice and add a peeled, crushed clove of garlic. This marinade can be made a day ahead and kept refrigerated.

amino acid absorption and indigestion

Friday 29 February 2008 @ 9:52 am
by Steve Pallovy

The building blocks of life, otherwise known as amino acids, are required for every bodily process and make up seventy five percent of the body itself. Of the twenty essential amino acids, ten of them are produced from the food we consume. whereas the other ten are produced in the body.

Here are a few of the 20 amino acids with their functions: lysine helps with the absorption of calcium, histidine is essential for the re-growth of tissue, phenylalanine assists with nerve functions and memory, leucine controls the blood sugar levels, methionine is used to break fats down and tryptophan helps with sleep and the production of serotonin.

We suffer in many ways both major and minor when our digestive system is not working correctly. Although acid reflux, indigestion and heartburn are small problems they can still be painful side effects of digestive problems. Acid reflux was thought to arise due to an overproduction of HCL acid. However, research carried out more recently indicates that indigestion can actually be caused by underproduction of this acid.

Achlorhydria, which is the technical term for the underproduction of acid, results when undigested protein is sitting and is basically rotting away in the stomach. This in turn causes burping and bloating and is very uncomfortable when food is forced back up the esophagus. Telltale signs that your food is not being broken down properly and is not producing the amino acids that your body requires, are excessive burping, feeling heavy and nauseated, suffering with either diarrhea or constipation and bad breath.

Digestive systems can malfunction for a variety of different reasons. At the basic level, the body isn’t receiving the chemical signals needed to stimulate waste removal, amino acid absorption, mineral use and protein use.

Body chemical imbalance could be due to stress or a strong regime of physical exercises taking the whole of your body’s attention away from other needs. Age is another factor to take into consideration. Hydrochloric acid production is much lower in an older person than in a younger one. Your digestive system can also be affected by an inadequate diet, eating disorders, or a lack of good sleep.

Prilosec, which is a top selling prescribed medication, promises to relieve the discomfort by stopping acid production. This however, does not treat the underlying issues of putting right what should happen naturally. Even though drugs such as Prilosec may provide immediate relief, it does not address the fact that improper digestion prevents the production of essential amino acids in the body.

For this reason many people take supplements of amino acids to control their digestive processes. These supplements can kick start the removal of wastes from the body and control the production of stomach acid and the absorption of minerals. We need to remind ourselves that our bodies will not perform as designed without the proper nutrition.

guide to making mixed coffee

by Ray Walberg

Many people think that True lovers of coffee will always drink it straight, but actually they couldn’t be further from the truth. There are more choices when it comes to coffee than there are wine. There are many different ways to enjoy drinking coffee.

Blenders are very creative and can produce exciting tastes of coffee which weren’t previously available. Indonesian blends are particularly popular as these combine Sumatran and Papua New Guinea beans which can create a nice delicious cup of coffee. Few people even knew that Papua New Guinea grew coffee.

Sumatra beans are mixed with plenty of other beans. There is a half and half mix of these beans with Colombian patron which produces a smoky dark roast ground which brews a lovely cup!

Flavorings can be added to the coffee to make it a little different. Vanilla, Almond or cherry can be added to coffee in order to make it less acidic and sweeter. Bananas and hazelnuts find themselves right at home with coffee and can improve the taste of a standard Robusta quite considerably.

If you want to make a mocha then there are a variety of different types of chocolates which you can use and will improve the taste of the bean.

There are so many different variations possible with coffee, it’s amazing. Your choices are limited only by your imagination, pretty much whatever you want is possible. Plenty of liquors and alcohol can be added to coffee to make it so much more inviting.

jamaican coffee is full bodied and has a solid base which is suitable to add pears, brown sugar and rum to. Instead of run you could add brandy for a little bit of a change.

Cocoa goes very well with coffee it is a favorite among coffee lovers. Cocoa and coffee are a delicious combination whether they are hot or cold. Mexican coffee and cocoa make a very interesting drink.

If you think that’s as far as coffee has gone then you’d be wrong. You can even buy frozen cappuccino that is lovely for a hot day if you don’t feel like your regular cup. Try mixing this ice drink with some chocolate mint flavors for a little extra uniqueness.

There are also decaf options available, I’m not quite sure why people would want these but they do exist. You can buy decaf blends of all the major and popular types of coffee, you are in no means limited in your choices.

Most of the time a nutty bean indicates coffee of a poor quality, however this does not have to be the case if making macadamia coffee.

Coffee is a very versatile product and can be used in a number of different ways. Just don’t get too upset when you find out that a normal cup of coffee isn’t enough to satisfy you anymore!
