Enjoy a Perfect Cup of Tea at a Bed and Breakfast

Picture six little girls in party dresses sitting around a table set with decorative cups and saucers — they’re having a real tea party at a bed and breakfast to celebrate a friend’s birthday! Or imagine a formal high tea complete with crisp linen tablecloths, a silver tea service and delicate sandwiches and sweets served on fancy china. These are just two of the many types of afternoon teas that bed and breakfast innkeepers are now offering guests at their inns. And many extend these offerings to outside groups such as bridal showers, bridge parties, book clubs and more.

A visit to Hillbrook Inn in Charles Town, West Virginia, an early 18th-century Tudor, is truly like a trip back in time to an old English country manor. Surrounded by acres of gardens and woods, this is absolutely an ideal spot for an afternoon. You’ll savor freshly baked cookies and tea sandwiches and treats prepared by the inn’s own executive chef. The innkeepers have prepared fairy tale birthday teas where little girls feel like real princesses, if only for an afternoon. You can enjoy your gourmet, six-course high tea in the beautifully decorated inn, or in warmer weather, take tea in gardens.

In his book, “The Great Tea Rooms of America,” noted tea expert Bruce Richardson named Cliffside Inn of Newport, R.I., as one of the 20 best tea rooms in the country. The ever-changing tea menu might include tea sandwiches of caviar and egg or perhaps pesto with tomato and mozzarella. Sweet items such as fine chocolates, homemade brownies and cookies and, of course, scones are served with all the accoutrements, such as handmade English marmalades, lemon curd and Devonshire cream. In summer months, tea is served either on the veranda or perhaps in the garden. During cooler months, the teas are presented in the parlor where the soft glow of warming fire and tables set with fine silver and china set the scene.

Also in Newport, the innkeepers at the historic Kitt Shepley House offer a unique, “High Tea on the Sea.” Climb aboard the innkeepers’ 28-foot boat and you’ll enjoy both a tour of the historic harbor as well as a selection of tea sandwiches and delectable sweet treats, served along with tea or lemonade.

In Chatham on Cape Cod the Captain’s House Inn serves a complimentary Cream Tea for their guests featuring scones, cookies and cakes. For a small charge both guests at this Massachusetts bed and breakfast as well as outside guests, can enjoy a formal English Afternoon Tea served by British interns. Traditional finger sandwiches, savory pastries and sweet treats are served. As a new twist, you may also do a “Tea Flight” — sampling six different teas, which the chef has paired with appropriate delicacies. This Massachusetts bed and breakfast was a sea captain’s home dating back to 1839 with each of the 16 rooms featuring a fireplace as well as most modern amenities.

At Halcyon Place Bed and Breakfast in Campbell, New York, guests can enjoy a summer tour of the inn’s herb gardens and then enjoy a scrumptious afternoon tea. The menu of sweets and savories are homemade using herbs from the inn’s gardens. Innkeeper Yvonne Sloan begins these Wednesday tea events with a presentation about growing herbs and using them in recipes.

Enjoy afternoon tea, Southern style at the Traveler’s Rest B&B in Montezuma, Georgia. Just a two-hour’s drive from the city of Atlanta, this bed and breakfast serves up afternoon tea in the dining room or on the veranda. Innkeeper Adele Goodman has hosted everything from a mother-daughter Girl Scout tea or a meeting of the local Red Hat Society. The tea features all the traditional delectables, as well as a few special Southern treats.

Enjoy the total Victorian experience with an authentic English tea at Richmond Victorian Inn. The historic inn, located just a few miles from Burlington, Vermont, in the town of Richmond, has been host to a number of specialty afternoon teas. The innkeepers have prepared princess tea parties for little girls, as well as wedding shower teas and even teas for book clubs. On many Sundays, the innkeepers serve a signature English tea with all the trimmings, including locally made teas and freshly baked scones.

During the holiday season, the innkeepers at Rosewood Country Inn in Bradford, New Hampshire, go all out. Each December, they host a special Holiday Tea and Tour. The historic inn has a rich past as lodging, hosting guests such as Jack London, Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin. After the tour, you’ll enjoy lavish homemade treats, such as a lemony snowflake cake and freshly baked scones.

weight loss with green tea

Thursday 24 July 2008 @ 7:11 am
by Scott M Green

Have you been seeking help in your attempts to lose weight? Is green tea for weight loss something you have wondered about? Green tea offers some different options when it comes to weight loss. It can improve anybody’s health because it contains many helpful properties as well.

The main benefit of green tea leaves comes from the fact that they are not fermented before they are dried or steamed. This preserves the antioxidant, antiviral, and anti- cancer properties of green tea. Using green tea for weight loss is attributed to its fat flushing properties. Green tea has many health benefits besides weight loss and has a clean, fresh taste.

As shown in several studies, people who drink one bottle of green tea daily for three months have lost more body fat than people who do not. Catechin, a substance found in green tea, is a weight loss trigger that accounts for this difference. Catechins help your body to burn calories faster, decrease body fat, and act to suppress your appetite.

Although several teas are made from the plant Camellia Sinensis, green tea is more effective at fighting fat than the other kinds of tea. For those who do not particularly like the taste of green tea, pills containing green tea are ideal. These pills offer similar benefits to drinking the green tea for weight loss and are widely available in health food stores.

In a pill form, green tea for weight loss is usually taken one to two pills at a time. It is recommended to take them with food. Drinking the traditional tea versus swallowing it in pill form daily doesn’t seem to be significantly different as far as weigh loss goes. However, green tea does remain in the body longer when taken in a pill rather than drunk.

So what if you dread the flavor of green tea and detest the thought of swallowing pills? There is still an option for you! Scientists have developed an innovative new green tea for weight loss patch. The weight loss aid comes in patch form, which you stick to your skin for a full twenty-four hours. If you have any sensitivity to adhesive materials, make sure you read the package labeling carefully before purchasing a green tea patch.

Exercising, eating properly and drinking green tea for weight loss is a viable program for most people who want to lose a few pounds. Remember that prior to starting a diet or exercise program, it is best to check with your health care provider so they may help you determine the best methods.

How Green Tea Helps You Lose Weight And Keep It Off!

Medical research is currently being carried out in an attempt to substantiate the many uses of green tea, but the results will take years to obtain. One simple use we can tease out of the complicated benefits is the use of green tea as an antioxidant. It is believed that drinking green tea or ingesting it in liquid or tablet form will provide your body with the antioxidants that will enable you to burn calories in a natural manner and thus achieve weight loss.

Everyone touts the enormous anti-aging benefits of green tea. It works by speeding up cell regeneration and slowing down oxidation. For the purposes of weight loss, green tea is especially notable for its ability to help eliminate toxins from the body as it increases metabolism while at the same time working as a natural and gentle laxative. A faster metabolic rate means that we burn more calories and stop the dieter’s enemy, fatty tissue, from building up in our bodies.

Green tea works best when used in addition to good eating habits and moderate amounts of exercise; the user must be committed to using the tea in conjunction with other lifestyle changes to achieve results. Remember that losing weight also involves mental lifestyle changes as well.

If you drink your green tea, you should enjoy it in the evening as part of your bedtime ritual. For a few days after first starting this regimen, some may notice a bit of mild bowel and stomach discomfort as the body adjusts to its faster metabolic rate. This is a normal and temporary effect. You will begin to see positive effects within a week as long as you stick to your program of taking in lots of fluids, eating vegetables, and exercising moderately.

Green tea is often combined with ginseng root to contribute nutrients so vital for a detoxification period. When you combine the two supplements you get a mixture that is proven to be more effective than either item separately. Ginseng is called the root of like in Tibet and China, it has vitamins and minerals that the body needs for this detoxification that is taking place during your weight loss diet.

Also known as an energy and immune system booster, ginseng, like green tea, is a natural and safe way to lose weight even when taken over a six-month period. So enjoy, and start losing weight the natural way.

The Beauty of Teapots

by Sandra Wilson

As an on line browser and shopper, you will find getting the perfect teapot for yourself is an easy, yet at the same time difficult, task. You will find it simple because you just have to perform a google or yahoo search to locate many pages of teapots to look at. The difficulty will come in choosing just one or two pots to call your own.

It’s not just the very many kinds of pots available for your choice but all the items that you can choose to add to your pot to make tea making easier. You can have different types of strainers to remove the tea leaves, or infusers that will hold the loose tea in the pot while it steeps. There are timers to let you know when the tea is ready. There are thermometers to be sure the water is the right temperature for the tea you are brewing and so on.

Getting back to the teapots themselves, you will find they are made from lots of different materials. There are metals ones like the beautiful silver tea services you can find. There are porcelain ones. Different kinds of clay make different types of teapots such as the red clay Brown Betty. Some are made from plastic and some from glass. The later can provide an interesting show for the “agony of the leaves”.

Next after materials, is the shape of the tea pot. You can find a tea pot in just about any shape such as one with six sides or made to look like a rabbit. There are the interesting looking Russian samovars. There are tall pots and squat pots.

If you have a decor you wish to match, you will find that color of teapot somewhere. Just about any color or color combination can be found. If nothing else, there is always the basic black of the cast iron Japanese tetsubin or a basic white glazed pot.

Finding a teapot from a specific location can probably be done if that is what you want. Being a person who wants a teapot, at least enough to look on line, probably means you want something you can’t find locally. It might be a Tetsubin from Japan or a special Staffordshire from Great Britain. It could be the most fragile porcelain from China. Whatever it is, there are teapots from all around the world.

Going beyond the other characteristics of the teapot, you will also find that the times have left their mark as well. Each movement or fashion has affected the humble tea pot. Among these you will find Art Deco, Rococo, 60’s modernism, and Art Nouveau. If you have a taste for a particular art or architectural style, you just might be able to find a teapot that reflects it.

So finding the perfect teapot for brewing you favorite beverage is all simply a matter of taste. Not only your taste for the beauty of the pot you pick, but your taste for your favorite teas will have some impact upon it as well. You could find that if you drink different types of tea, you will need different types of pots.
